Is It A Video Of A Chinese Soldier Beating A Uyghur Muslim? Know The Truth.

Recently a video was forwarded to our 24*7 Factline number 9049053770 claiming it to be a Chinese soldier beating a Uyghur Muslim for keeping a copy of the Quran at his home.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral video was not from China, but from Indonesia and it had no communal angle. Here's the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots of the video and conducting a reverse image search of the screenshots. As a result, we found the same video uploaded on a YouTube channel on 24 May 2024.

The caption of the video read, "Imam Syarifudin90#WrongA motorcycle gang was caught by the TNI in action"

TNI stands for Tentara Nasional Indonesia i.e. Indonesian National Armed Forces.

Moving forward conducting a relevant keyword search we found a report published on Tribun Medan on 24 May 2017. The report had a photo attached to it similar to the screenshots of the viral video. According to the report the person who got beaten was involved in a street crime.

The officer had been dismissed from his duties...

The incident occurred at Depok Baru Station on 13 May 2017."

Further, as we looked closely at the viral video, the other person could be seen wearing a hat where "PKD" was written.

PKD is a security unit in Indonesia.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim with the viral video is false. The video does not show a Chinese officer beating a Uyghur Muslim for keeping the Quran at home. The video is from Indonesia and the person who got beaten was a pickpocket.
