A social media post claiming that BJP had launched a missed call campaign to gain support of the citizens to establish Uniform Civil Code (UCC) against Muslims, Christians and other minorities is going viral.

A user wrote, “UCC is the need of the hour; it is in the interest of the nation and the country, so please support it! Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appealed to all Indians to bring the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). Citizens of the country have been asked for their opinions on this matter. In just two days, 4 crore Muslims and 2 crore Christians have voted against the UCC. Therefore, before the deadline of July 6th, it is requested that all Hindus in the country vote in favor of the UCC. To support the UCC and save the country, please give a missed call to 9090902024. Your call will be recorded and accepted as support for the UCC. Please share this information with all Hindus. Best wishes to all those who give a missed call to 9090902024.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The number viral on social media is not for supporting UCC but was a part of BJP’s election campaign in 2024.

A relevant keyword search led us to a report published on The Hindu on 15 March 2024. According to the report, BJP launched a month-long campaign on March 15 in Mangaluru to gather public suggestions for their manifesto for the 2024 general elections. One of the ways to submit suggestions was by Namo App or by giving missed call to 9090902024.

We also came across a tweet from BJP’s official account which carries the same contact number on the viral post. The tweet reads, “9 years of service, good governance and welfare of the poor! To join the 'Public Support through Public Relations' campaign, give a missed call to 9090902024.

National spokesperson of BJP, Dr. Guru Prakash Paswan on April 13 tweeted that people shared their suggestions by giving missed calls on 9090902024 or on social media platforms with Vikasjit Bharat ka Sankalp. The Sankalp Patra Committee was collecting suggestions from every Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha constituency of the country for the last two months.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The number viral on social media is not for supporting UCC but was a part of BJP’s election campaign in 2024.
