The viral image is misleading; it was a screenshot captured at a moment in which both appear to be asleep.

An image of Trinamool Congress MPs Mahua Moitra and Saayoni Ghosh appearing to be asleep during a Parliament session has gone viral on social media. Midnapore MP June Malia was seen seated between the two leaders, watching the session.

The caption states, "Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra and Jadavpur MP Sayani Ghosh spent the whole night thinking about the development projects of respective regions. Hence, they decided to sleep in Parliament. Krishnanagar and Jadavpur people are really ' FORTUNATE ' to get them”.

Fact Check-

A reverse image search on Google led us to the YouTube video from Sansad TV which showed the two MPs seated, as shown in the viral image. In the video, Arvind Ganpat Sawant, MP from Shiv Sena congratulated Om Birla on being elected as the office speaker. During his speech, Sawant said, “What we need is harmony, not hatred.” During this moment which was the 1:57 timestamp, both the MPs lowered their eyes, as shown in the viral image

We looked further and the second after the mentioned timestamp, the visual shows Moitra's eyes open. When both the leaders lowered their eyes for a while and the screenshot of this moment was deliberately taken and shared with misleading claims. Which made it seem that Mahua Moitra and Sayani Ghosh are sleeping. This is where we confirmed by showing a close comparison of the viral image and the video scene found.

We also found a video congratulating Sawant published by TV9 Marathi and Maharashtra Times on 26 June. We noticed that neither Mahua Moitra nor Sayani Ghosh was sleeping in these videos.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim made along with the viral image to be Misleading. The viral image is misleading; it was a screenshot captured at a moment in which both appear to be asleep.
