An image of Maharashtra’s AIMIM leader Waris Pathan sitting beside a woman is going viral on social media with the claim that the woman is Pathan’s sister, wife and stepmother. Forwarding the image to our 24X7 Factline number 9049053770 a user wanted to know whether the information was correct or not.
However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim is false. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found a video on the official Facebook page of Waris Pathan uploaded on 28 January 2024. Waris Pathan and the woman seen in the viral image can be seen in the video.
The caption of the video reads, “Live press conference Waris Pathan at Aimim office Malad Malvani Mumbai. On various topics Mira Road incident Maratha reservation and Nitish Kumar.Must watch and share!!!!!”
At the beginning of the video, Waris Pathan introduced the woman next to him as Rizwana Isa Khan, Women AIMIM Mumbai president.

Moving forward, using relevant keywords, we came across a tweet from Rizwana Khan. A video was uploaded to the tweet with a caption in Hindi which read, “वारिस पठान सहाब की सगी बहन, सगी पत्नी और सौतेली मां बोलकर ये तीनो एक औरत है X(Twitter) पर गलत टिप्पणी करने वालो पर मुंबई पुलिस सख्त कार्रवाई करे।” In the video Rizwana Khan can be heard saying that she registered a complaint in Malvani Police Station against it and strict action should be taken for those who are making such derogatory statements.
We found a post on Rizwana Khan’s Facebook page too. According to the caption of the post, Malvani Senior Police Inspector Chimaji Adav assured to take strict action on the complaint lodged at Malvani Police Station last night.

Further, we found a tweet from Waris Pathan’s official X handle which read, “FIR Registered by malvani police malad for offences u/ sec 354,509 IPC against almost 15 persons (Twitter handles)who tweeted with malafide intentions to outrage the modesty of women and making derogatory remarks. Cyber cell will also take action.”
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the viral claim is false. The woman sitting next to Waris Pathan is Rizwana Isa Khan, president of Women AIMIM Mumbai, not Waris Pathan’s wife.
