Viral video shows rockets fired by the Turkish military in Syria. This video has been circulating online since February 2020.

Iran used hundreds of drones and missiles to directly target Israel in response to an Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, setting significant political and military precedents. It was the single largest drone attack ever carried out by any country, and it was the first time Iran directly attacked Israel after almost a half-century of being archenemies.

Against this backdrop, many images and videos of Iran’s attacks on Israel have become viral on social media like this, “BREAKING NEWS Iran’s missiles launching on full speed against Israel! #IranAttack #WorldWar3 #WorldWarIII”

Fact Check- 

Our investigation began with a reverse image search of key frames from the viral video, and the results led us to a similar video uploaded on YouTube on 3 February 2020 with a caption, “Turkish forces target the Syrian regime in response to the killing of 4 Turkish soldiers”.

Upon further search, we found the same video along with the tweet of Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah on the same date, with the caption “Turkish forces retaliate against the Assad regime attack in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province, footage by local forces shows.”

As per media reports, Turkish forces using artillery and jets hit Syrian government military targets across Syria’s Idlib province in February 2020. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the offensive was in retaliation for a deadly attack by Damascus on Turkish soldiers.

As a result, we may conclude that the old video of rockets fired by the Turkish military in Syria was falsely shared as showing Iran’s missile attack on Israel.
