The Jamnagar extravaganza concerned the entire country. Unfortunately, politicians and civilians show little regard for our service members.

The whole nation and the world witnessed the year's biggest event, with celebrities from all walks of life flocked to Jamnagar in Gujarat to attend billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani's son Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant's pre-wedding celebrations recently. Billionaires from around the world, heads of state, and Hollywood and Bollywood celebrities attended the three-day pre-wedding spectacle.

Users who shared the post claim that Indian media outlets were ignoring the news and focusing on the pre-wedding festivities of Anant Ambani.

The caption of the viral image is, “Major Smt Kumud Dogra... in her arms is her five days old baby and her feet marching towards the dead body of her husband Wing Cmdr D Vats... a rare epitome of courage... salute to you Major Smt Dogra .No media has covered this news on any channel. The whole country was more bothered about 3 days Jamnagar extravaganza. Sad that our service people don't even get a bit of respect from the Politicians and the citizens”.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on Google, whose results led us to news report by The Statesman published on 24 February 2018. The report featured the same image with a caption, “Wife attends IAF officer husband’s funeral with 5-day-old baby”. The report states the image gained widespread attention on social media after the demise of IAF Wing Commander Dushyant Vats in an aircraft crash.

According to the report, “on 15 February, Wing Commander Dushyant Vats of the Indian Air Force lost his life in a Micro light aircraft crash in Majuli, Assam. Vats was on a routine sortie when the Virus SW80 he was flying experienced a technical problem leading to the crash. Just days after the incident, a photo of his wife went viral on social media. In the photo his wife Major Kumud Dogra is seen marching to her husband’s funeral with their baby – a girl – who was just five days old on the day of the funeral.”

Additionally, we also found that several other mainstream news outlets such as The Indian Express and India Today then reported this incident. The reports highlighted that Major Kumud Dogra paid last tributes to her late husband in full army uniform and cradling her newborn at that time.

Taking account of these evidences we can understand that the image is not recent; it was taken during the funeral of IAF Wing Commander Dushyant Vats, who passed away in an air craft crash in 2018.
