Christians all over the world celebrate the birth of their Lord Jesus on 25 December every year. Hindus also celebrate Tulsi Pujan Divas on the same day.
An image of PM Modi lighting a candle in a Church is going viral on social media. Users are claiming that this is an image on the occasion of Tulsi Pujan Diwas, when PM Modi visited a Church and lit a candle.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is an old image from April on the occasion of Easter when PM Modi visited a Church in New Delhi and lit a candle.
What’s the Claim?
Sharing the mage, a social media user wrote, “This is all a political game. Today, the murderers of Gandhi were found celebrating Christmas and remembered their brotherhood with the Christians. These are the same people who appointed a person as minister who burnt a Christian family alive in Odisha. These people burned Churches and missionary schools but as election is approaching, they will make Christians feel special”

Fact Check-
A Google Reverse Image Search led us to the same photo published on The Indian Express website on 10 April 2023. According to the report, on the occasion of Easter, Prime Minister Modi visited the Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in New Delhi. He stayed there for about 30 minutes.
He greeted the Father and other church members and joined the meeting. According to church officials, Prime Minister Modi joined prayers there and also planted a small tree in the garden of the church before leaving.

A relevant keyword search led us to a video uploaded on News Nation’s YouTube channel. In this video we could see the priest of the church welcoming PM Modi. Later we also saw Modiji sitting in the church during carol singing.
Speaking to the media, the church Father said that this was the first time in the history of his church that a Prime Minister had come. It was a moment of joy for all the church members. Modiji went to the Cathedral Church in Delhi on the eve of Easter.
The priest said, “There was not much conversation with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister came to join the prayers. Our children sang three prayer songs. Modiji first lit the candle in front of the statue of Jesus Christ. He sat in the church with his hands folded until the three psalms were over. When we told the Prime Minister that the prayer meeting was over, he got up and we also gave him a gift.”
Conclusion:
Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. This is not an image of PM Modi lighting a candle in the Church on the occasion of Tulsi Pujan Diwas or Christmas. This is an old image during Easter when PM Modi visited Sacred Heart Cathedral Church in New Delhi.
