Is this a recent video of Subhramanian Swamy speaking against the use of EVM? Know the truth. 

Recently, the counting of votes of 5 states Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh was concluded. BJP won the elections in four states except Telangana. 

Against this backdrop, a video of BJP leader Subhramanian Swamy is going viral on social media. In the video, he can be heard saying that he contacted the Japanese company who manufactures the controller in the EVMs and asked if they use the same controller in the EVM machines in Japan. The Japanese company replied that they are not fools to use these controllers in EVM. They use the ballot paper method of voting.

Sharing this video, social media users are claiming that Subramanian Swamy himself says that it is possible to manipulate EVMs.

Fact Check- 

A relevant keyword search led us to the same video uploaded on Dr. Subramanian Swamy’s YouTube Channel on 19 April 2012. During his speech he mentioned how EVMs are being manipulated and tampered during the elections in the country. He also mentioned that countries like Japan, US and Germany are still using ballot paper for voting. You can listen to him in the video from 33 seconds onwards. 

From the above fact, it is clear that this is not a recent video. This is a decade old video, when there was the UPA government in the center.

We also found The Economic Times report from 2012. According to the report, Subramanian Swamy had raised his concerns against the use of EVMs in elections as these machines can easily be tampered and manipulated. He further added that countries like England, USA, Germany, Japan etc do not use EVMs. 

According to another report, Subramanian Swamy also filed a petition at Delhi High Court against the use of EVMs in the election as these machines can be rigged and tampered. But, the Delhi High Court disposed of his plea saying that it cannot instruct Election Commission of India to use ballot paper instead of EVMs.

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be out of context. This is a decade old video of Subramanian Swamy when he spoke against the use of EVMs. This video is from 2012 when there was UPA government at the center.
