A few days back, North Sikkim faced a devastating flood situation. Many people were reported dead and missing. Due to severe rain, a glacier lake situated in the northern part of Sikkim burst. This resulted in the rise of the water level in the Teesta River which caused the flood. Four districts of Sikkim Mangan, Gangtok, Pakyong, and Namchi were severely affected by this.

In the backdrop of this, a video of a cloud burst is going viral on social media. Social media users are claiming that this video is from the latest incident that took place in Sikkim.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an old video from Austria and not related to the flood situation in Sikkim.

Fact Check-

A Google Reverse Image Search led us to the same video uploaded on the Nav Bharat Times YouTube channel on 29 July 2023. The caption of the video reads, “See how cloud burst happens”

We also found News18 ‘s report in 2022 saying that this video is from Austria. A photographer named Peter Marier captured this video of a cloud burst over Lake Millstatt in Austria.

After this, we searched for this video on Peter Marier’s YouTube account. We found that he uploaded this video in 2018. He mentioned that he captured this video at Lake Millstatt. He also mentioned that he is the sole copyright holder of the video.

We found the same video in his Instagram account as well. Below you can see the post.

Below is the map of Lake Millstatt in Austria which is almost similar to that of the viral video.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be completely false. The viral video is a visual of a cloud burst in Lake Millstatt in Austria. This is an old video from 2018 and not related to the recent Sikkim flood.
