Video Of Indore Holi Viral As Massive Hanuman Jayanti Celebration In Hyderabad

Communal False

Tensions were high in Hyderabad as the city celebrated Hanuman Jayanti in the wake of communal violence that had marred Ram Navami celebrations in several states.

Now a video has gone viral on social media that shows a massive procession making its way through the streets.

The video is being claimed as footage of the Hanuman Jayanti celebration in Hyderabad, a city that has been prone to communal tension in the past.

Fact Crescendo received the claim on our WhatsApp Tipline (9049053770) with fact-check requests.

We found that the claim is false. The viral video is not from Hyderabad.

WHAT’S THE CLAIM?

In what appears to be a display of religious festivity, a 27-second video clip has emerged on social media showing a large, jubilant crowd drenched in Gulal dancing on a street.

The video has gone viral, with many speculating that it shows the celebration of Hanuman Jayanti in Hyderabad.

It has been shared with a caption that reads: “sree Hanuman Jayanthi celebration in Hyderabad.”

FACT-CHECK

Using the Google reverse image search, we found that the viral video has been previously shared as Holi celebrations in Kanpur and Indore.

A similar video with gulal throwing machine was also featured in a news report on the IBC-24 YouTube channel, where it was reported that the footage was taken at ‘ger’ of Holi in Indore.

The tradition of Gers or Holi processions dates back to the Holkar-era, where people from different parts of the city gather to celebrate and make their way to the historical Rajwada in Indore.

Taking a clue, we explored where this place could be located in Indore. Our search led us to the Indore District Administration website, where we came across a photo of the same spot seen in the video.

The photo had also been shared on 25 March 2019 on Instagram by Digi Makers, lending further support to the fact that the viral video was taken in Indore.

The fact that the photo is given as Rangpanchami celebrations on an official government website adds further credibility to the conclusion that the viral video was not related to the Hanuman Jayanti celebrations in Hyderabad, as claimed.

Fact Crescendo Marathi had reached out to Shubham, one of the co-founder of ‘Digi Makers’.

He told us that the above photo is from Rajwada Chowk in Indore and the viral video is also from Indore.

In addition, he confirmed that the building seen in both the photo and the video is the same.

This was determined through a comparison of the two images, which clearly shows the similarities in the architecture and design of the building.

Peaceful celebrations in Hyderabad

In Hyderabad, the celebration of Hanuman Jayanti was carried out peacefully, amid religious fervor. The city saw a total of 106 processions being organized as part of the celebrations, according to police reports.

CONCLUSION

Thus, it is clear that the viral video is neither from Hyderabad nor does it depict the Hanuman Jayanti celebration. It is an old video from Indore where people were celebrating Holi.
