Is this a video of locals from Tamil Nadu attacking the Bihari people? Know the truth. 

Social media is flooded with posts and videos regarding the atrocities of locals of Tamil Nadu against Bihari migrant workers. Fact Crescendo found and debunked a few such false claims circulating on social media. 

One such video is now going viral where a big vehicle can be seen ramming a car with people still sitting inside it. A few people can also be seen holding swords and weapons and running on the road. It is claimed that this video is of the current situation in Tamil Nadu. 

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an old video from Gujarat and is not related to the violence against Bihari migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. 

What’s The Claim? 

Sharing the video, social media users are claiming that when such violence is taking place Tamil Nadu police is just mere spectator.

Fact Check- 

After watching the video, we found that the locals are speaking in the Gujarati language. This raised suspicion about whether the place of the incident is truly from Tamil Nadu.

A Google Reverse Image Search led us to a report by News 18 Gujarati website on 25 July 2022. We found a few images similar to the video published in the report. According to the report, this was an incident of a gang war that took place in Surendranagar city in Gujarat. 

Two groups from the local area were trying to catch a boar. The violence took place after a gang caught the boar in another gang’s territory. The violence was raised to such an extent that the ramming of vehicles also took place. Four people got severely injured in the incident. 

According to Zee News, this incident of violence took place between two gangs of Surendranagar in Gujarat. People from both gangs were attacking each other with running vehicles and swords. Few people were injured in this incident. Police also reached the spot and arrested people responsible for the violence. 

We also reached out to TV9 Gujarati reporter Sajid Belim. He informed us that this incident took place last year in Surendranagar, Gujarat. Initially, there was an argument between the two gangs related to catch a boar. Later, when the two gangs came face to face the matter escalated and violence took place. Police intervened in the situation and registered complaints against both the gang members and arrested them as well and later sent them to judicial custody. 

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be misleading. The viral video is not an incident of violence against Bihari migrant workers from Tamil Nadu but an old incident of a gang war in Gujarat.
