Many users tweeting these hashtags have accused Bollywood of insulting Hindu Gods and Goddesses.
Recent Bollywood releases such as Aamir Khan’s Lal Singh Chaddha and Taapsee Pannu’s Dobara have been the target of these users who had asked people to Boycott these movies. These users have also targeted upcoming movies such as Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathan and Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra among others.
A video clip showing Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor in an interview with Koel Purie Rinchet of Headlines Today has gone viral on Twitter. The user, who has shared the video, claims that Anushka Sharma is publicly revealing that Ranbir Kapoor uses drugs to enhance his acting. The tweet has more than a thousand likes and 700+ retweets.
The user here claims that Anushka reveals how Ranbir Kapoor takes Cocaine on sets so he can be more upbeat before shoots. The user also uses the viral hashtags mentioned above asking people to boycott Ranbir Kapoor’s upcoming movie Brahmastra. However, this video clip is just a small excerpt of the whole interview and is lacking context.
When we investigated, we found that the comments were part of a friendly banter between the two. The actors were apparently teasing each other by lying about each other. Let us understand the context in which these comments were made.

We searched on YouTube for the video using relevant keywords and found the video of the complete interview on the YouTube channel of Headlines Today. The interview was conducted in 2015, when Ranbir and Anushka’s movie Bombay Velvet was about to release. The interview was conducted by Koel Purie Rinchet as a part of her program ‘Couching with Koel’. You can watch the whole interview below.
Ranbir and Anushka had appeared on the show ahead of the release of Bombay Velvet in 2015. We can see that the interview is a fun oriented casual conversation rather than a serious one. The host and the actors can be seen enjoying by playing games and joking throughout the interview. The host asks Anushka and Ranbir about their connecting points, to which Ranbir says, “Anushka is a fantastic girl and she’s lovely…” Then he jokes and says Anushka does not take a shower. To which Anushka replies, that Ranbir has been spreading such rumors about her. The host then asks about their chemistry despite their contrasting personalities as she describes Anushka as ‘restless and manic’ and Ranbir as ‘calm’. Anushka responds by saying, ‘that’s why it (their chemistry) works.’ While Ranbir jokes and calls Anushka, ‘the Anxiety Queen’, and claims, she cannot have a conversation without taking anxiety pills. To which, Anushka laughs him off and calls him a ‘horrible person’ who is spreading rumors about her.
Then Ranbir asks about himself to Anushka and the latter responds to Ranbir’s question in the same jovial spirit. Anushka says, “I think he does drugs so that he can be more upbeat because he is otherwise such a [illegible] person. So he has to… [Makes gestures with her hands]”. To which the host Koel responds by saying ‘Lines’ (referring to cocaine). To which Ranbir calmly and sarcastically responds by saying, “Don’t say that Anushka! That’s wrong! You can’t say that on Television.” Later we can hear Anushka telling the host that ‘there is no news, stop this nonsense [Laughs].’
Thus, we can see that the comments were made in a lighter mood and the actors were simply teasing each other by lying about each other. These comments are being spread without a context making it appear as if Anushka Sharma called out Ranbir Kapoor’s drug abuse on sets.

Thus, it is evident that the viral clip is being shared out of context. Anushka Sharma’s comments on Ranbir Kapoor were made as a joke during an interview they did in 2015. The same comments are being shared on Twitter as revelations by Anushka Sharma about Ranbir Kapoor’s drug abuse.
