Fact Check-

We started our investigation through a keyword search on Google and we found a business today video interview with Ratan Tata uploaded on YouTube on 20 September 2022 with a caption “Ratan Tata Clears the Air on a Quote Attributed to him, Narrates Decision-Making Challenges”. At the beginning of the interview Tata can be seen clearly stating that he never made such a statement explaining that it was a fabrication possibly from Facebook or Twitter.

The description part of the video states “I don’t believe in taking right decisions, I take decisions and make them right,” is a statement that Ratan Tata, Chairman, Tata Trusts & Chairman Emeritus, Tata Sons denied making at a special ceremony in HEC Paris in April 2015. He was awarded an HEC Paris honoris causa degree in 2015, making him the first industry leader from Asia to be awarded such a distinction from HEC Paris. Ratan Tata was asked to shed light on the aforementioned statement by the event moderator, to which Tata said, “I am sorry to upset you, but it’s a statement made by Facebook or Twitter”.

Following further search, we found that HEC Paris uploaded an extended version of the same video on 4 June 2015 with the title “Ratan N. Tata receives Honoris Causa degree at HEC Paris.” The same question-and-answer session may be seen in the video at the 16:00 minute. Tata had responded, “I am sorry, I am going to upset you but Facebook or Twitter made that statement. That was never made by me.”

So it is clear that the viral quote on decision making is falsely attributed to Ratan Tata.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found that the claim is False. Ratan Tata had clarified that he did not make this statement in an interview in 2015.
