The claim about Ram Janmabhoomi Trust chief Mahant Nitya Gopaldas Ji’s death is false.

Currently, an image of PM Modi, visiting an ailing person in a hospital is going viral on social media. In the photo, the PM can be seen bowing before the person and giving him respect. Users are claiming that the person on the hospital bed is Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust chairman Mahanta Nitya Gopaldas Ji Maharaj who passed away recently.

However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. The ailing person in the image is Swami Smaranananda Ji Maharaj, president of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. PM Modi visited him in the hospital in Kolkata.

Fact Check-

In our research, we first did a Google reverse image search of viral photos. As a result we found the same image posted on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official Twitter handle on March 5, 2024. In this tweet, he said, “Upon reaching Kolkata, went to the hospital and enquired about the health of the President of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Srimat Swami Smaranananda ji Maharaj. We are all praying for his good health and quick recovery.“

According to an NDTV report on March 5, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kolkata, where he met ailing Swami Shmarnananda Ji Maharaj at Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan. The next day he addressed a public gathering at Barasat in North 24 Parganas of West Bengal. 95-year-old Swami Shmarnananda Ji Maharaj was hospitalized for more than a month due to poor health.

We found a Facebook post of Sri Ram Janmbhoomi Tirth Khsetra on 1 October 2024. The trust issued a statement informing people that there are some rumors circulating on social media regarding the health of Mahant Shri Gopal Das Ji Maharaj. The statement read, “Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Khsetra Chairman Mahant Shri Gopal Das Ji is in good health and is at his residence in Ayodhya. On October 1, fake news about the death of Gopal Das Ji was spread on social media which has become a matter of concern.” The notice also advised people not to believe such rumors.

Conclusion: 

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust chairman Mahant Shri Gopal Das Ji Maharaj is in good health. The ailing person on the hospital bed whom PM Modi visited is the president of Ramkrishna Math and Ramkrishna Mission Swami Smaranananda Ji Maharaj.
