West Bengal Police And SC Registry Refuted Claims About CJI Wife.

A social media post claiming the wife of Chief Justice Of India DY Chandrachud is related to the personal physician of the CM of West Bengal, Dr. S.P Das, is going viral. The post reads, “CJI Chandrachur’s present wife is related to Dr. SP Das orthopaedic surgeon and personal physician of CM Government of West Bengal. Also, Justice Chandrachur and Abhishek Banerjee spend their holidays in Malaysia and Bangkok together! Just informing you without any intentions behind.”

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral message was false. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search. As a result, we came across a tweet from the West Bengal Police. The tweet attached the blurred image of the viral post and marked it as fake. The tweet read, “It has come to our notice that extremely derogatory and baseless aspersions are being cast by some people in social media about the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India including the Hon’ble Chief Justice of India. Exploiting freedom of speech to indulge in wild falsehood, that too against the Hon’ble Apex Court, is illegal and punishable. Sternest possible legal action will be initiated against those trying to malign the judiciary.”

Moving forward, we found a tweet on the Twitter handle “Law Today” which stated that the Supreme Court Registry had clarified that CJI’s wife was not related to Mamata Banerjee’s personal physician.

There are accusations on Dr S P Das that he is controlling the health department of West Bengal.

Further, we came to know that Kalpana Das, wife of CJI, is from Odisha. According to a news report published on 6 May 2023, CJI DY Chandrachud said that he proudly regarded himself as the son-in-law of Odisha. He said this while addressing a national conference on “Digitisation, Paperless Courts and e-initiatives’ at Odisha Judicial Academy in Cuttack.

We found a video on the YouTube channel ‘Kalinga TV‘ where CJI could be heard saying the same.

From this, it is clear that the viral claim is False. Kalpana Das, wife of CJI, is not related to the personal physician of Mamata Banerjee.

From our investigation, we can say that the viral post is false. Kalpana Das, wife of CJI, is not related to the personal physician of the CM of West Bengal. Moreover, she is from Odisha.
