Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to the website MSN where the viral video was uploaded a month ago. The description of the video reads, “Sand dredgers crash into bridge and sink into flooded river in Vietnam. Bystanders along the Chay River in Vietnam’s Yen Bai province witnessed the dramatic moment when sand dredgers crashed into the To Mau bridge on September 9. Footage captured the vessels being swept downstream and forced under the bridge by the surging current. Super Typhoon Yagi has brought heavy rains to the region since early September”.

Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to a report published on Newsflare. The report contained the viral video. It read, “This is the dramatic moment sand dredgers crashed into a bridge as the river surged from Super Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam.

Footage shows the two specialized boats drifting and smashing into the To Mau bridge across the Chay River in Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province, on September 9.

One vessel sank and passed under the bridge while the other remained stuck.

Yagi was Asia’s most powerful storm this year, triggering landslides and floods that killed at least 150 people in Vietnam, where it made landfall.

Four people also died in the Chinese holiday of Hainan in its path after coming from the Philippines, where it killed at least 20 residents.
