Is this a Bangladesh protest against repealing of Art 370 in Kashmir?

A video of a large number of Muslim people wearing religious caps, chanting slogans and holding banners went viral on social media with the claim that the video is from Bangladesh and the video shows a recent protest in Bangladesh against the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Sharing the video, a user wrote, “Now Bangladeshis are protesting against the abrogation of Article 370. Their economy is doomed, the country is burning and soon they will beg like Maldives and Pakistan but their priorities are different. विनाशकाले विपरीतबुद्धिः”

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the viral video was not recent. It’s from 2019. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking some screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. As a result, we found an image on the stock image website Getty Images. The image was similar to the screenshot from the viral video. The description read, “Activists of Islami Andolan Bangladesh, an Islamic political group, march in the street as they gather at the national press club for a rally to protest against recent situation on Kashmir in neighboring India, in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on August 6, 2019. The banner shown there was the same as the viral video. Moreover, the people holding the banner in the image were also the same as those in the viral video. A comparison between the screenshot from the viral video and the image found in Getty images can be seen below.

We found a video, too, on the Getty Images website.

According to the description and the text written on the banner, the protest was held by “Islami Andolan Bangladesh“, which is a political party in Bangladesh. Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search on YouTube and found a video similar to the viral video. Though the video was shot from a different angle, we could see the same people holding the banner as shown in the viral video.

A comparison between the viral video and the YouTube video can be seen below.

Further, we found similar images on the website Alamy.

Thus, it’s clear that the video is not recent. The video is old and from 2019.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The video is not recent. It shows a protest held in 2019 by the Islami Andolan Bangladesh, a political party in Bangladesh, against the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir
