Old video from the Russia-Ukraine war shared as Hezbollah forces destroying an Israeli tank.

Eight Israeli soldiers have been killed and a number of others wounded in three exchanges with Hezbollah in heavy fighting inside Lebanon last day. Hezbollah also claimed it had destroyed three Israeli Merkava tanks with guided rockets in the Lebanese border town of Maroun el-Ras.

Against this backdrop, video that has gone viral purportedly shows Hezbollah destroying Israeli tanks. The caption states, “Hezbollah destroyed an Israeli Tank which recently entered in Lebanon”

Let’s check the truth

Fact Check-

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to an article in the Ukrainian Defence blog featuring the screenshot of the viral video. It was published on 8 October 2023. The caption states, Ukrainian forces blow up Russian most advanced tank. The report further states, “Ukrainian Soldiers from the 66th Mechanized Brigade have destroyed the Russian T-90M with an anti-tank guided missile (ATGM). In released aerial footage, a Russian tank went up in flames after being struck by direct hits from Ukrainian forces”.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence also shared the video the same day on Twitter identifying the tank in the video as a T-90M. This indicates the video is old and unrelated to the ongoing Israel-Lebanon conflict.

Moving forward, we found an extended version of the video uploaded on YouTube in October 2023, describing this incident to be from the Russia-Ukraine war.

The Kyiv Post report states that the Russian tank appeared to launch grenades in the direction of Ukrainian lines as a possible defensive tactic before being destroyed by an anti-tank missile launched by Ukrainian forces. The Russian military at the time confirmed the loss of 45 T-90 tanks and 2,362 tanks of all types since its full-scale invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022.

Thus, taking account of all these evidences, we can understand that this is an old video from the Russia-Ukraine war and it has no link to the recent Iranian attack on Israel.

Conclusion- Fact crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This video shows Ukrainian forces destroying a Russian T-90M tank, and it dates back to 2023
