Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi recently been in news for her choice of hand bags to Parliament, she arrived at the Parliament on 16 December carrying a bag supporting Palestine. The next day she arrived with a new bag displaying a slogan in support of the minorities of Bangladesh, which read, “Stand with the Hindus and Christians of Bangladesh.” 

Against this backdrop an image of Priyanka Gandhi carrying a handbag with the words “I don’t care about Bangladeshi Hindus” written in English is going viral on social media, and users are sharing this image and claiming that Priyanka Gandhi is carrying a bag with the lines ‘I don’t care about Bangladeshi Hindus’ written on it.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation with a keyword and reverse image search on Google and the results led us to a report published on the Indian Express on 17 December 2024 with a caption, “Day after Palestine, Priyanka Gandhi’s handbag message expresses solidarity with Bangladesh minorities”.

Congress party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi had raised the issue of Hindus being attacked in Bangladesh in Parliament. While speaking, she stressed that, “The government should raise the issue of atrocities against minorities, both Hindus and Christians, in Bangladesh. It should discuss this with the Bangladesh government and support those who are in pain,” 

She was joined by several Congress MPs, and together they staged a protest in the Parliament premises. The MPs, holding handbags emblazoned with the message “Stand with minorities of Bangladesh,” raised slogans and demanded justice.

So, the viral image appears to have been altered. We looked for evidence to back up this claim. Priyanka Gandhi has shared the original image on her Instagram feed. It also has the word Palestine on it. Day after Priyanka Gandhi grabbed attention for carrying a pro-Palestine bag, she and her Congress MPs were seen with handbags calling to “Stand With Bangladeshi Hindus and Christians” in the Parliament premises.

 So, it is clear that an image of Priyanka Gandhi carrying a handbag in support of Palestine was altered and a false image was shared on social media with the caption “I don’t care about Bangladeshi Hindus.”

Fact Crescendo found that the viral image of Priyanka Gandhi holding a bag that read, “I don’t care about Bangladeshi Hindus,” had been digitally Altered. The original image shows Priyanka Gandhi carrying a bag with Palestine written on it.
