2021 image of cricketer Shreyas Iyer from hospital shared as recent after his latest injury from India–Australia ODI

The viral image dates back to 2021, after Shreyas Iyer underwent shoulder surgery, it is unrelated to his recent injury.

Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer sustained a serious spleen injury with internal bleeding on 25th October during the third ODI against Australia in Sydney. He was rushed to the hospital and the bleeding was immediately arrested. Now he is out of danger.

In this situation social media is surfaced with an image of the cricketer seated on a hospital and it is being claimed that this picture was taken after the surgery.

The caption of the post states, “Good news for cricket fans! Shreyas Iyer has been moved out of the ICU after suffering a spleen injury. The star batter is now stable and on the road to recovery”.

Fact Check-

We began our investigation by conducting a reverse image search on Google, which led us to this image shared by Shreyas Iyer on his own verified Twitter handle on 8 April, 2021. In it he wrote, “Surgery was a success and with lion-hearted determination, I’ll be back in no time. Thank you for your wishes”.

Further search revealed information concerning this image. According to a report by ANI, dated 8 April, 2021, which carried the same image. The report quoted Shreyas Iyer confirming a successful shoulder surgery after being injured during the India–England ODI series.

The Hindustan Times report also states that Iyer had sustained a shoulder injury during India-England ODI series. He had injured his shoulder in the first ODI and subsequently missed the next two matches. 

All these evidences clarifies that the image is not recent but from his injury back then in 2021.

Conclusion-Fact Crescendo has found the claim made along with the viral image to be Misleading. The viral image does not relate to the recent injury on Shreyas Iyer on 25 October 2025. The image dates back to 2021.
