No, PM Modi Has Not Announced Any Free Mobile Recharge for Diwali

A video is going viral on social media with the claim that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced free mobile recharge for all citizens as a Diwali gift.

The video appears to be a TV9 news bulletin, followed by a short clip of PM Modi speaking and instructions on how to claim the free recharge offer through a website.

Fact Crescendo found that this claim is completely false. No such announcement has been made by PM Modi or the Government of India.

WHAT’S THE CLAIM?

The viral video begins with a TV9 Delhi NCR news bulletin, where anchors say, “PM Modi has given a Diwali gift to all citizens.”

It is followed by a short clip of PM Modi saying, “No payment is required. If anyone demands money for it, you must write to me directly.”

After that, the video claims that mobile recharges of Jio, Airtel, and VI for three months are free and asks users to share the video with five friends and register their number on a website called maxjankari.com to get the benefit.

FACT-CHECK

We checked the official websites and social media handles of the Indian government, PM Modi, and telecom companies like Jio, Airtel, and Vi. There is no official announcement or scheme related to any free mobile recharge offer for Diwali.

On close examination, it is clear that the viral video has been made by combining three different and unrelated clips.

Clip 1: TV9 Bulletin

The original news bulletin aired on 4 September 2025 on TV9 Delhi NCR. In that report, anchors were talking about GST reforms that simplified tax slabs to 5% and 18%.

There was no mention of any free recharge scheme..

Clip 2: PM Speech

The part showing PM Modi speaking is taken from his speech during the foundation stone ceremony of Bageshwar Dham Medical & Science Research Institute in Madhya Pradesh on 23 February 2025.

In that speech, PM Modi was talking about Ayushman Health Cards and said that senior citizens above 70 years will get free medical treatment.

“Ayushman Cards are being issued to provide free medical treatment to all elderly individuals above 70 years of age—regardless of whether they are poor, middle-class, or wealthy. These cards will be generated online,” he tells before saying the protion that has been used in the viral video.

“And no payment is required. If anyone demands money for it, you must write to me directly—I will take care of the rest. So, if someone asks for money, what will you do? You will write to me!”

This line has been misused in the viral clip to create a fake “recharge” context.

CLIP 3: Phishing Attempt

The website mentioned in the viral video, maxjankari.com, is not linked to any government scheme.

It is promoting online courses and appears to be using the “free recharge” claim as a clickbait to collect users’ phone numbers and personal details.

CONCLUSION

The claim that PM Modi has announced free mobile recharge for all citizens on Diwali is false.

The viral video is edited and misleading. It combines unrelated clips and uses a fake website to trap users.

People are advised not to share such videos and avoid clicking on suspicious links asking for personal information.
