At first, we checked MTV India’s verified social media handles regarding this information but could not found any announcements about closing operations.

As per reports, on 12 October, 2025, Paramount Global announced that MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live will permanently stop broadcasting by December 31st, 2025. However, this decision was announced for five channels in the UK and that the move would not affect India.

Meanwhile, the main channel, MTV HD, will continue airing reality shows, marking a clear shift from the brand’s historic focus on music videos and artist promotion, as reported by BBC.

MTV, originally an initialism of Music Television, is an American cable television channel that launched on 1August, 1981 by Warner Communications. It is currently owned by Paramount Skydance, and is one of the company’s flagship brands.

MTV is licensed in India by JioStar, which has also not provided any information or issued a press release regarding the channel’s closure by the end of 2025 in India.
