Indian origin Malabar Gold appointed a Pakistani as its ambassador? Check the facts

Indian origin Malabar Gold has come under scrutiny after many social media posts claiming that it appointed a Pakistani as ambassador. The posts objected to this decision after recent unrest between India and Pakistan leading to the online trend #boycott Malabar gold.

In the post, a lady can be heard saying, “The brand ambassador of Malabar Gold is a Pakistani citizen. She is campaigning against India and influencing Pakistan. Start boycotting Malabar Gold. That is the only way. Boycott.

Fact Check-

Fact Crescendo contacted Malabar Gold’s head office in Kozhikode, Kerala to find out more about the propaganda. Rajeevan Nair, the Supreme Court lawyer handling the Malabar Gold case, clarified that this is just a false propaganda and that no one from Pakistan is working as an ambassador or in any other capacity at Malabar Gold.

He informed that a petition had been filed in the Mumbai High Court against the campaign and a favorable interim order had been obtained from the court. A copy of the court judgment can be seen.

Details of the same can be seen here

The misleading campaign was triggered after the appointment of a PR company to promote the launch of the brand in London in the UK. Some people used the footage of a social media influencer who accompanied them to spread false propaganda on social media platforms. The court issued a strong interim order against those who spread false propaganda in response to a petition filed against this.

A company was contracted to hire local social media influencers to promote the brand during the inauguration of a new showroom in Birmingham, UK. The young woman who came to the showroom with them recorded a video and, as a social media influencer, posted it on her own social media handles. On the day of the showroom’s inauguration, many people would come to the showroom. They never bar anyone from coming. We had no idea that the young woman, a UK resident, was Pakistani. Later, she took the footage and deliberately spread misinformation against Malabar Gold. Some of the people who spread the footage have been arrested by the police in Gujarat and Kerala.

After this we looked for brand ambassadors of the brand. We found that Indian actors like Alia Bhatt, Junior NTR, Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Manushi Chhillar are the listed ambassadors of the Malabar Group

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. Malabar Gold did not appoint a Pakistani as its ambassador. Malabar Gold’s brand ambassadors have so far been celebrities from India.
