Old and unrelated video going viral as the reaction of Pakistani fans after losing to India in Asia Cup Final

This viral video is from the 2022 Asia Cup, Afghanistan vs. Pakistan match. It is unrelated to the 2025 Asia Cup. 

India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the Asia Cup final, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. But Indian players refused to accept the winner’s trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Soon after the victory, a video went viral, with the claim Pakistani fans throwing chairs inside the stadium. The caption of the post states, “Reaction of Pakistan after losing to India in Asia Cup Final”.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with a reverse image search on Google and the results led us to the same video uploaded on YouTube by TRT world 3 years ago under the caption “Afghan cricket fans hurl chairs after losing match against Pakistan”.

The description states, Afghanistan cricket fans violently broke and threw chairs, vandalising a stadium after Pakistan defeated the country at the Asia Cup on 7 September, 2022”.

This indicates that the viral video is not recent and it does not show the reaction of Pakistan fans.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found news reports from that time regarding this incident. The video shows fan fights following the Pakistan-Afghanistan match on 7 September, 2022. The brawl erupted inside the Sharjah stadium, where Afghanistan fans, unable to contain their emotions after their team’s one-wicket loss, attacked Pakistan supporters and vandalised the stadium.

Moving forward, we found a video report on the Indiatimes’ YouTube channel, uploaded on 8 September, 2022 under the caption “Asia Cup 2022: Afghanistan And Pakistan Fans Clash And Vandalise Stadium”.
