However, as we investigated, we learned that the claim was false. The viral video is old and from Pakistan. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a video report on the YouTube channel Guardian News on 27 June 2025, where a video similar to the viral one was shown. According to the report, the video is from Pakistan. The description of the video reads, “At least nine people died when floodwaters swept away children in a river in northern Pakistan and relatives who had jumped into the water to try to save them, officials have said. ‘The family was having a picnic breakfast by the Swat River and the children were in the water taking photos when the sudden flood hit’, district administrator Shehzad Mahboob said. Relatives rushed in but were also caught up in the deluge, which had been swollen by monsoon rains, he added.”

We found another video report on the YouTube channel Global News that contained the viral clip. The description of the video read, “At least nine people died on Friday when floodwaters swept away children in a river in northern Pakistan and relatives jumped into the water to try to save them, officials said.

The family group were tourists from Pakistan visiting the Swat Valley, local mayor, Shahid Ali Khan, said.

Locals and more than 80 rescue workers were searching for survivors, rescue officials added.”

Similar videos and reports can be seen here, here and here.

This makes it clear that the viral video is an old video from Pakistan.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show a recent incident in the flood-hit Punjab, India. The video is from Pakistan where a family was swept away in the flooded Swat River in June 2025.
