The viral image depicts RSS volunteers engaged in relief and rehabilitation efforts in Uttarkashi following the disaster.
Uttarakhand has been hit hard by natural calamities this monsoon season. Heavy rains and cloudbursts wreaked havoc in various districts, now linking to this an image purportedly showing members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) carrying supplies on their shoulders is going viral on social media with the claim that they were stealing belongings from abandoned houses in Uttarakhand after the recent cloudburst.
Let’s check the truth
The same post has gone viral on Facebook as well.
Fact Check-
By performing a reverse image search on Google, the results led us to a news report published on 11 August, 2025, with a title: “Uttarkashi Cloudburst Havoc: 70-year-old Gulab Singh Negi leads RSS Swayamsevaks in tireless relief in Dharali.” The report adds, RSS Swayamsevaks, led by 70-year-old Gulab Singh Negi ji, are tirelessly delivering food, ration, and shelter to families devastated by the Uttarkashi cloudburst in Dharali.
Moving forward, we found a post by Assam Cabinet Minister Ashok Singhal on Twitter uploaded on 11 August. He too mentioned that the image showed RSS volunteers led by 70-year-old Sanghchalak Gulab Singh Negi delivering aid to people in flood-hit Uttarkashi. The caption states, “In flood-hit Uttarkashi, 70-year-old RSS Sanghchalak Gulab Singh Negi Ji wades through devastation, leading an army of swayamsevaks bringing food, aid, and hope to victims. This is RSS; always ready to answer the Nation’s call, always ready for duty,”
So, based on these evidences, we can understand that the RSS members carrying supplies on their shoulders was falsely shared as they were stealing belongings from abandoned houses in Uttarakhand after the recent cloudburst.
Conclusion-
Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be False. The image shows 70-year-old RSS volunteer Gulab Singh Negi leading swayamsevaks in Uttarkashi in a relief operation for families affected by the disaster.
