A short video clip of Union Home Minister Amit Shah has recently gone viral on social media. In the video, Shah is seen talking about three major terror attacks that happened under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
The clip is being shared in a way that makes it seem like Shah is criticizing Modi over these terror attacks in the country. Social media posts claim that Shah’s words are a direct attack on Modi.
Fact Crescendo received several requests from readers on our WhatsApp Helpline (9049053770) to verify the claim.
We found that the original video of Amit Shah’s speech has been edited and shared out of context.
WHAT’S THE CLAIM?
In the viral clip, Amit Shah says, “Since Narendra Modi took the oath, there have been three major attacks. The first was in Uri, the second in Pulwama, and the third just recently in Pahalgam…”
Implying that even top BJP leaders are now speaking out against PM Modi, users are sharing the clip with captions like, “You are right! Since Narendra Modi took oath, there have been three major attacks. Often the truth comes out!”
FACT-CHECK
A reverse image search on key-frames of the clip led us to a video uploaded on Amit Shah’s YouTube channel.
The original video is from a speech given by Amit Shah on 17 May 2025 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. He was addressing the benefit distribution program of the Postal Department.
When you watch the full video, it becomes obvious that Amit Shah is not criticizing Modi at all.
In the full version of his speech, he said, before 2014, the Congress government did not respond strongly to terror attacks, while the Modi government has given a strong reply to every such incident.
Firstly, he says, “Before Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, the country faced frequent terrorist attacks for years. Terrorists from Pakistan would enter India, kill our soldiers and citizens, and carry out bomb blasts. But no strong response was ever given [by the government at the time].”
After this, he says the part featured in the viral clip: “Since Narendra Modi took oath, there have been three major attacks. The first was in Uri, the second in Pulwama, and the third was a recent attempt in Pahalgam by Pakistan-backed terrorists.”
In the next part of his statement, which was removed from the viral clip, Shah adds, “But PM Modi responded to each of these attacks with such firmness that the whole world is watching India’s military power in astonishment and Pakistan is experiencing it with fear.”
CONCLUSION
After looking into the full context of the video, we found that the viral clip has been edited in a misleading way. In reality, Amit Shah was praising the Prime Minister for his strong response to terrorism and criticizing the Congress government for not responding strongly to earlier terror attacks. The viral clip has been trimmed to remove this context, which creates a false impression that Shah is speaking out against Modi.
