A reverse image search led us to this tweet from the news agency ANI carrying the same image along with other images. It was posted on 23 August, 2025. It states, “ED arrested KC Veerendra, Karnataka’s MLA from Chitradurga constituency, from Gangktok in connection with illegal online and offline betting case and recovered amount of approximately Rs 12 crore in cash, including approximately Rs 1 crore in foreign currency, gold jewellery worth Rs 6 crore, silver articles around 10 kgs, international casino membership/reward cards”.

As per the Times of India report, Karnataka Congress MLA KC Veerendra was arrested on 23 August 23 from Gangtok, Sikkim, in connection with an illegal betting racket. Veerendra used to run illegal online betting platforms with the help of his brother, KC Thippeswamy. Many of the betting-related operations were managed from Dubai.

The Enforcement Directorate also shared a post regarding this operation on their official Twitter account, where they said that the exercise was conducted on 22 and 23 August. The agency carried out raids “at 31 locations across India including Gangtok, Chitradurga District, Bangalore City, Hubli, Jodhpur, Mumbai and Goa,” they said, mentioning that Veerendra had been arrested from Gangtok, Sikkim.
