This viral video is not from the Guruvayur Railway Station’s retiring room

This footage shows Amenity Center operating under the Guruvayur Municipality

Guruvayur is a pilgrimage town in the state of Kerala. It’s known for centuries-old, Guruvayur Sree Krishna Temple. A video related to Guruvayur railway station is now going viral on social media. The video of empty dormitories is being circulated claiming that they are from the AC restroom at the railway station.

The caption of the video states, “Guruvayoor railway station A/C retiring room. When a passenger tried to book online, it said no vacancy. But when he visited in person, he found it was 100% empty”.

A video is circulating alleging that passengers are not getting rooms when they try to book online, even though the AC retiring rooms at Guruvayur railway station are vacant.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation by relevant keyword search on Google but we could not find any credible reports regarding the same.

Moving forward, we found a statement issued by the official handles of Southern Railway and Railway Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Office on Twitter stating that this is a false propaganda. The Southern Railway post states, “Misleading News! The video circulated is NOT from Guruvayur Rly Station. Retiring rooms here are under renovation. The visuals appear to be the Tourist Amenity Centre managed by Guruvayur municipality. Pl don’t spread fake news. This is to ensure passengers are not misinformed”.

For further clarification, we reached out to the Southern Railway Senior Public Relations Officer, and he confirmed that, “The visuals of the amenity center under the Guruvayur Municipality are being filmed and circulated in the name of the Railways. After this was noticed, we had given an explanation through social media. Otherwise, the passengers would have misunderstood and faced inconvenience. The Railways are renovating and constructing the rest rooms in Guruvayur.” In fact, this is footage from the facilitation center operating under the Guruvayur Municipality.

The Fact Checking Section of Press Information Bureau has debunked this viral claim through their social media handles.

The video being circulated under the name of rest rooms at Guruvayur Railway Station are actually footage of the amenity center under the municipality.
