This viral video shows an incident from West Sumatra; Indonesia and it dates back to May 2024. It has no link to Himachal Pradesh

Heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the past week triggered landslides and flash floods which disrupted the life of Himachal Pradesh. In the wake of this several unverified images, videos, and claims have surfaced on social media.  One such video showing a truck narrowly escaping a landslide is being shared on social media with claims that it is from Chamba, Himachal Pradesh.

Fact Check- 

Our investigation began with a reverse image search of key frames from the viral video, which led us to a video report of the viral video. According to this, a landslide had occurred in Indonesia’s West Sumatra province on 17 May 2024. 

Using these hints, we conducted further searches, and we found a video report of ‘ CNN Indonesia ‘. According to this, it is a video of Sitinjau Lauik Route of Padang city of West Sumatra, Indonesia.

Flash floods struck West Sumatra, Indonesia on11 May 2024, following heavy rainfall in the upstream region of Mount Marapi. The floods severely affected four districts: Agam, Tanah Datar, Padang Panjang, and Padang Pariaman. Reports stated that at least 67 people lost their lives, and many others were reported missing.

Landslide in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh

In Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, a sudden landslide occurred on the mountain. After the landslide, the rocks started moving down towards the village. However, then a miracle happened which saved the lives of many people. Bharmour-Pathankot highway was also closed due to a landslide near Parihar last week triggering a traffic jam for hours.  

Although a landslide occurred in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, this viral video does not depict it.
