However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The viral video is old and unrelated to the recent Dharali Floods. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation, by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a tweet on the official X handle of Aaj Tak on 27 June 2025 that contained the viral video. According to the tweet, the video shows a flood situation in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh. The translation of the caption reads, “In the Sainj Valley of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, a new video has surfaced showing the devastating flash flood in the Jeeva Nala during the recent cloudburst incident, clearly depicting the horror of the destruction. The video shows how the surging river water suddenly enters a residential area, engulfing a house and a powerhouse instantly.

In the video, people run out of the powerhouse’s storeroom. As soon as they escape, the fierce floodwater crashes into the house and powerhouse, causing widespread destruction in just a few seconds. People narrowly escape with their lives.

During this time, other local people present there are seen coming out of their homes, whistling and shouting to alert those approaching.”

Taking this clue we conducted a relevant keyword search which led us to the official Instagram handle of India Today, where we found the viral video uploaded on 27 June 2025. The caption reads, “A new video has surfaced, showing the devastating flood in Jiwa Nala, triggered by the cloudburst in Sainj Valley, Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh. The footage vividly illustrates the scale of the destruction.

The video captures the moment when the river, swollen from the flood, suddenly bursts into a residential area. Within seconds, it engulfs both a house and a power house.

In the footage, people are seen fleeing from the power house’s storeroom. As they escape, the powerful floodwaters strike with force, wreaking havoc on both the house and the power house in mere seconds. The individuals narrowly avoid being swept away by the current.

Meanwhile, other local residents can be seen emerging from their homes, blowing whistles and shouting in an effort to warn those ahead of the approaching flood.”

Other videos and reports can be seen here and here.

This makes it clear that the viral video is an old video from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video doesn’t show the recent flood situation in Dharali, Uttarakhand. This is an old video from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh.
