Fact Check-

At first we checked the official website of J&K’s Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj but we could not find any such government notification regarding the panchayat elections.

Additionally, on carefully observing the viral document, we found the text in the document had multiple spelling errors such as “pacilitate”, and “announcoment”. which is highly unlikely in any government notification. These discrepancies indicated towards the possibility of the viral image being a fake one.

Moving forward, we found a post from the official account of the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, shared on 5 August 2025, which debunked this notification with the caption: “Fake news alert.”

The department of RDD&PR also confirmed that no such order has been issued by the department and the document in circulation is fabricated and misleading. They further stated that the State Election Commission is the only competent authority to notify the schedule for Panchayat elections and no such timeline has been officially announced as of now.

“No official notification has been issued regarding Panchayat Elections in J&K. A forged order circulating on social media is FAKE. Only State Election Commission can notify election dates. Don’t fall for misinformation”.

We also found the official notification of the announcement of the 2018 Panchayat Elections in Jammu and Kashmir on the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer. It was signed by the Chief Election Officer of J&K and not the secretary to government (Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj) as seen in the viral image.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo discovered that the notification regarding the panchayat elections that has been made for Jammu and Kashmir is fake. The government has not issued any such official notification regarding Panchayat Elections in J&K yet.
