Fact Check-

Are Fennel and Anise Essential Oils Approved?

A relevant keyword search revealed that Fennel and Anise essential oils are approved to be used by the FDA and are Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS). The list of all essential oils, leoresins (solvent-free), and natural extractives (including distillates) can be seen here.

Both the oils are considered safe when used in limited and safe amounts as flavoring agents in food under good manufacturing practices. The FDA includes these oils in its public database of substances added to food, confirming they meet safety standards for human consumption.

Fennel oil is also listed in FDA’s approved inventory of substances added to food in regulated amounts. It is generally used as a natural flavoring agent. This means it can be safely used in herbal products and other edible items.

According to the National Institute of Health, the oil is also used to help with stomach and breathing problems. It can relax the muscles in the gut, making digestion easier, and helps clear mucus from the lungs. It is also known to increase milk production in breastfeeding mothers, reduce menstrual pain, boost sex drive, and support childbirth. Research shows that fennel essential oil has many helpful effects, including fighting germs, reducing inflammation, protecting the liver, lowering blood pressure and blood sugar, and working as a natural pain reliever and blood thinner.

Conclusion:

Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. Fennel and Anise essential oils are approved additives and considered as safe when used in limited and safe amounts. Both the oils are approved by regulatory bodies.
