Old Video From J&K Going Viral As The Recent Flash Floods In Dharali, Uttarakhand.

On 5 August 2025, a cloudburst triggered a mudslide and flash floods in the Dharali village in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district which swept away many buildings. Many buildings and cars are still under debris. Against this backdrop, a video of cars, buildings and other structures under debris went viral on social media. Sharing the video, users claimed that the video shows the devastation caused by the recent flash floods in Dharali, Uttarakhand.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The viral video is not from Dharali, it’s from Jammu and Kashmir. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a Facebook page where a video similar to the viral video was uploaded on 22 April 2025. According to the post, the video is from J&K.

This makes it clear that the video predates the recent flash floods in Dharali.

We found a video report on the official YouTube channel of Republic Bharat that contained clips similar to the viral video. According to the report, A cloudburst in the Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir caused flash floods on 20 April 2025. After which more than 100 people were evacuated to safer places. Heavy rains caused devastation in the area and three people died.

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video does not show the devastation caused by the recent flash floods in Dharali, Uttarakhand. The video is from Ramban, Jammu and Kashmir, where a massive flash flood hit on 20 April 2025.
