Old, Unrelated Video From Himachal Pradesh Going Viral As A Rescue Operation In The Recent Flash Floods In Dharali, Uttarakhand.

On 5 August 2025, a cloudburst triggered a mudslide and flash floods in the Dharali village in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district which swept away many buildings. Rescue operations are going on and 65 people have been airlifted to Matli, officials said. Against this backdrop, a video of three people being rescued from a flooded river went viral on social media. Sharing the video, users claimed that the video shows a recent rescue operation in Dharali after the flash floods.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The video is old and unrelated to the recent floods in Uttarakhand. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to the YouTube channel “The Tribune” where a video similar to the viral video, shot from a different angle, was uploaded on 29 July 2022. According to the caption, 5 youths were stuck in a river in Nalagarh when they tried to take photos. A few villagers rescued them.

Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search that led us to the YouTube channel “Indian Express Punjab“, where the viral video was uploaded on 29 July 2022. The description of the video reads, “Due to heavy rains the rivers and rivulets are in full spate in Himachal Pradesh. On Thursday, 5 youths were trapped in the Chikli river in Nalagarh, Solan, during that time they had landed in the river to take a selfie. During this, suddenly there was heavy water in the river and they had to take the support of stones in the middle of the river to save their lives. When the local came to know about this, they got involved in the rescue. After a lot of effort, they could be pulled out them with the help of a rope.”

Other reports can be seen here and here.

This makes it clear that the video is old and from Himachal Pradesh.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video is not from the recent flash floods in Dharali village, Uttarakhand. The video is old and from Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh.
