However, as we investigated, we came to know that some of the clips in the video are old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Russia. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search.
First Clip
Conducting a reverse image search of the first clip, which shows a ship capsizing after a huge wave hits it, we found a report published on CBS Austin on 4 February 2023 that contained the viral clip. The report read, “In Oregon, the US Coast Guard had to rescue a man from a capsizing boat — that they later learned was stolen! Officials said the man stole the boat on the Oregon coast Friday morning and was rescued after he sent a mayday broadcast.
The coast guard sent in air crews to rescue him. The boat capsizing as the man was standing on the edge of the boat!
He was taken to a local hospital, but authorities didn’t realize he had allegedly stolen the boat until after he was discharged.
That’s when they asked the public for help finding the man.
He was later arrested at a warming center.
He’s also accused of posting a video himself placing a dead fish on the front porch of a house featured in “The Goonies.”
Another similar report can be read here.
This makes it clear that the clip is old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Russia.
Second Clip
A reverse image search of the second clip led us to a report published in Dainik Bhaskar that contained the viral clip. According to the report, the video shows people trapped in a Skywalk in Thailand during the earthquake on 28 March 2025.
Other videos can be seen here and here.
This makes it clear that the clip is old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Russia.

The third clip shows a train shaking during an earthquake. Conducting a reverse image search, we found the video uploaded on an Instagram handle on 29 March 2025. According to the caption of the post, the video shows Bangkok’s Subway Station during the earthquake on 28 March 2025.
We found the same video on another Instagram handle uploaded on 28 March 2025.
From this, it’s clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Russia.
Fourth Clip and Sixth Clip
The fourth and sixth clips show huge waves crashing into homes. Both clips are similar. Conducting a reverse image search, we found a longer version of the clips uploaded on a YouTube channel on 3 February 2021. The caption of the video reads, “02-02-2021 Scituate, MA – Drone shots of massive waves crash into homes, flooded and damaged homes”
This makes it clear that the viral clip is unrelated to the recent earthquake in Russia.
Fifth Clip
The fifth clip shows a car and other buildings shaking during an earthquake. Conducting a reverse image search we found a report published in Dailymotion on 8 August 2024 that contained the viral clip. According to the report, the video is from Kyushu, Japan, where a 7.1 earthquake hit in August 2024.

A reverse image search of the seventh clip led us to an Instagram post on 18 January 2024 that contained the viral clip. According to the caption, the video is from Japan.
We found a similar video uploaded on X on 14 January 2024.
Thus, it’s clear that the video predates the recent earthquake in Russia.

A reverse image search of the eighth clip led us to a YouTube channel where the video was uploaded on 21 September 2017. According to the caption, the video is from an earthquake in Mexico.
We found another video uploaded on a YouTube channel on 20 September 2017.
Although we couldn’t verify the exact time and location of the video, it’s clear that the viral clip is old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Russia.
Ninth Clip
A reverse image search of the ninth clip led us to a website where the clip was uploaded on 21 April 2025.
We couldn’t verify the exact time and location of the video, but it’s clear that the video predates the recent earthquake in Russia.

Conducting a reverse image search, we learned that the clip is from the recent earthquake in Russia, where a team of doctors protected a patient on the operation table during the earthquake.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is missing context. Apart from the last clip, all the other clips in the video are old and unrelated to the recent earthquake in Russia.
