Old Video Of An Under-Construction Bridge Collapse In Bihar Going Viral As A Recent Incident.

Recently a video showing a collapsed under-construction bridge went viral on social media. Sharing the video, users claimed that the video shows an under-construction bridge over the Koshi River in Bihar that collapsed recently.

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The viral video is not recent. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search. This led us to a video report on the official YouTube channel of NDTV on 22 March 2024. The video report contained footage similar to the viral video. The description of the video reads, “One person was killed and several others trapped as an under-construction bridge collapsed in Bihar’s Supaul. The bustling construction site near Maricha turned into a scene of chaos and devastation after the collapse at around 7am today, prompting urgent rescue efforts by local authorities and volunteers. Authorities fear that 30 workers could still be trapped under the debris. According to reports, the bridge was being built at a cost of ₹ 984 crore over the river Kosi.”

A report published in India Today on 22 March 2024 read, “A person was killed, and several workers were trapped after an under-construction bridge collapsed in Bihar’s Supaul. The incident happened when a slab of an under-construction bridge being built over the Kosi River collapsed. The district official later confirmed the death of one person and injuries to several others. Those injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment.”

Conducting a reverse image search of the screenshots from the viral video, we found a tweet on the official X handle of Tejaswi Yadav on 22 March 2024 where the viral video was uploaded.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The viral video of an Under-Construction Bridge Collapse over the Koshi River in Bihar is not recent. The incident took place in March 2024 when an under-construction bridge over the Koshi River in the Supaul district in Bihar collapsed.
