Old video of flooded airport from Dubai shared as Delhi airport

Heavy rains lashed Delhi leading to waterlogging in several areas, particularly in parts of South and Southwest Delhi. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of the country until 27 July. Against this backdrop, a video showing severe waterlogging at an airport has gone viral on social media with the claim that it shows the visuals from Delhi airport.

Fact Check- 

Our investigation began with a reverse image search of key frames from the viral video and the results led us to a similar video uploaded by the National News under the caption “Dubai airport floods after heavy rain in the UAE”. This indicates that the video is not recent and not related to Delhi.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found several news reports featuring key frames from the viral video. According to these reports, in April 2024, Dubai International Airport was flooded with rain and flooding, preventing planes from operating and flights from taking place.

As per reports, In April 2024 over 30 flights between India and Dubai were cancelled due to record-breaking rainfall and severe flooding. Dubai Airport had advised passengers to avoid travel unless necessary, as the runways were waterlogged.

We also found a detailed report on Republic World’s official YouTube channel, which had uploaded the same video on 16 April, 2024, confirming the location as Dubai Airport.

Though Delhi is currently experiencing heavy rainfall, a search for any reports of flooding at airport did not lead to any credible news reports. So, taking account of all these evidences, we can understand that an old video of a flooded airport in Dubai is falsely shared as Delhi Airport.
