A video depicting unrest in Colombia falsely shared as Muslims burning the house of an artist from the Udaipur Files

This video from Colombia shows people setting a police station on fire after the police mistakenly killed a young man named Yulbert Barboza.

Udaipur Files is a Hindi language crime thriller film inspired by the true events surrounding the brutal murder of Udaipur-based tailor Kanhaiya Lal. Delhi High Court had put a stay on the film’s release of 10 July and had ordered the Centre to take a final decision on pleas seeking a permanent ban over the film’s potential to “promote disharmony” in society. The Supreme Court heard the matter on the release of the film ‘Udaipur Files’ on 16 July 2025 and ordered not to release the film until the report of the panel constituted by the Central Government comes. The matter will now be heard again on 21 July.

Against this backdrop, a video of a group of people setting a house on fire is going viral on social media with the claim that Muslims burned the house of an artist from the controversial upcoming film Udaipur Files.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a Google reverse search and whose results led us to a similar video uploaded on an Instagram post on 5 July 2025. The caption indicates that the video shows locals in Nazareth, Colombia, setting fire to a police station after police mistakenly shot and killed Yulbert Barboza, confusing his vehicle with one involved in an earlier attack.

This indicates that the viral video is from Columbia and not related to India or Udaipur Files.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found several news reports regarding this incident. As per the reports, Police in Nazareth, La Guajira, shot and killed Yulbert Fernández Barbosa on 4 July, 2025, after they allegedly thought his car was the same one that had been used in an earlier attack on the police station.

Another report states, “In confusing events, a young man identified as Yulbert Fernández Barbosa died while traveling with others in a vehicle that had been hit by gunfire. Several police officers were involved in the incident. The enraged community set fire to the police station, causing severe damage. So far, there has been no official statement from the authorities”.

Taking account of these evidences, we can understand that a video of a burning police station from Colombia is falsely shared as Muslims burning the house of an artist from the Udaipur Files. There are no credible reports of Muslims burning any artist’s house related to Udaipur Files.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the video to be False. This video from Colombia shows people setting a police station on fire after the police mistakenly killed a young man named Yulbert Barboza. It has no link to India.
