This video does not show recent fire at Piera Mosque in Barcelona, Spain

This is an old video from Jakarta, Indonesia and it dates back to 2022.

Anti-immigrant violence broke out in Spain’s Torre Pacheco, a total of 14 people have been arrested and extra police have been deployed after an attack on a pensioner sparked anti-migrant unrest in a small town in southern Spain. Amidst this unrest, the Piera Mosque in Barcelona caught on fire one day before it was supposed to be inaugurated. A few minutes later, emergency personnel managed to extinguish the fire, and ruled out any injuries.

Following this, a video showing a mosque on fire is going viral on social media with the claim that it shows the Barcelona Mosque fire.

Fact Check- 

By performing a reverse image search on Google, the results led us to a led us to a similar video, uploaded on TikTok on 20 October, 2022, with the Indonesian caption: “Fire Erupts in the Dome of the Jakarta Islamic Centre Mosque.” This indicates that the viral video is old and not related to the recent unrest in Spain.

Using these hints, we conducted further searches and found multiple media reports regarding this incident. As per reports, “The giant dome of the Jakarta Islamic Centre Grand Mosque in the north of the capital of Indonesia collapses after a major fire broke out at the mosque over several hours. The mosque was in the process of being renovated when it caught fire, according to the police, who say they have taken at least four workers have been taken for questioning.

The Hindustan Times report published on 20 October, 2022 also states that the giant dome of the Jakarta Islamic Centre Grand Mosque in Indonesia collapsed after a major fire.

Two images can also be seen inside the viral video. While the video is indeed from Indonesia, a reverse search of both these images shows that they have been featured in several Spanish news reports that described them as before and after visuals of the Piera Mosque fire in Barcelona.
