However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral video is old and unrelated to the recent Iran-Israel conflict. Here’s the fact check.
Fact Check
We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to the YouTube channel Voice of America where the viral video was uploaded on 14 May 2021. The description of the video read, “An Israeli airstrike destroyed a multi-story building in Gaza City, Wednesday, May 12, which housed the bureau of the Al-Aqsa television channel.”
The same video can be seen here and here, uploaded in May 2021.
We found a report published in The Sun on 15 May 2021 which contained similar visuals to the viral video. According to the report, the Al-Shorouq building in Gaza was attacked by an Israeli airstrike during a live broadcast by the BBC.
We found a similar video uploaded on the X handle of Al Jazeera English on 13 May 2021. The tweet read, “This is the moment the 14-storey al-Shorouq tower, housing media offices in Gaza City, was completely destroyed by multiple Israeli air raids on Wednesday.”
This makes it clear that the viral video is old and from Gaza.
Conclusion
From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video doesn’t show a recent Iranian missile attack on Israel. The video shows an Israeli airstrike on the Al-Shorouq building in Gaza in May 2021.
