Old Unrelated Video Shared As The US Airstrike On A Nuclear Facility In Iran.

On 22 June 2025, the US attacked three nuclear facilities in Iran, the Fordow Uranium Enrichment Plant, the Natanz Nuclear Facility and the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Centre, as part of the Iran-Israel conflict that started on 13 June 2025. A video of an explosion went viral on social media claiming it to be a recent US Airstrike on the Fordow Nuclear Site of Iran. Sharing the video on Facebook, a user wrote, “Massive U.S. Airstrike Hits Iran’s Nuclear Site

Incredible footage shows a devastating U.S. airstrike on Iran’s underground nuclear facility in Fordo near Qom. Massive destruction, fireballs, and secondary explosions rocked the site. Global tensions rise as the world watches what comes next.”

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral video is old. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published in December 2024 that contained an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video. According to the report, Israel dropped an “Earthquake Bomb” on Syria targeting the coastal region of Tartus, which also houses a Russian naval base.

Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to a video report on a YouTube channel DW News uploaded on 16 December 2024, which contained the viral video.

The description of the video read, “Israel’s military has carried out hundreds of military strikes in Syria since the collapse of the Assad regime last week.

Footage verified by the Reuters news agency shows a new explosion early on Monday in the coastal region of Tartus. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the Israeli military attacked air defenses and missile storage sites there. The region is also home to Russia’s only naval base in the Mediterranean.”

We found a similar video on the X handle Middle East Monitor uploaded on 16 December 2024. According to the tweet, the video shows an Israeli attack on the Syrian port city of Tartus.

Other reports can be read here, here and here.

This makes it clear that the viral video is old and unrelated to the US’s strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The video doesn’t show the US’s airstrike on the Fordow Nuclear Facility in Iran. The video is old. It shows an Israeli airstrike on the Syrian port city of Tartus in December 2024.
