A video of a flood causing massive destruction is going viral on social media. Cars and various vehicles can be seen washed away in floods. Users are claiming that this is video footage after a recent heavy rainfall in Dubai.
However, Fact Crescendo found the claim to be false. This is an old Tsunami flood video from Japan and not from Dubai.
Sharing the video, a social media user wrote, “This is today’s video. Many people died in Dubai.”
Fact Check-
A Google Reverse Image Search led us to a report on BBC’s YouTube channel on 12 March 2011. The video carries the viral clip. According to the report, this video is from Japan after the country was hit by a massive flood followed by a destructive tsunami. The natural disaster took place in the afternoon. A lot of people were reported trapped inside buildings and shops. Buildings, boats and vehicles, shipping containers on the coastal region got washed away in the massive Tsunami.
Another report of the same incident was posted on ABC News’ Facebook Page. As per the report on 11 March 2011, Japan was hit by an earthquake measuring 8.9 on the Richter scale. 35 minutes after the earthquake a Tsunami with a speed of 560mph hit the coastal region.
