Old and unrelated video shared linking to Ahmedabad flight crash

This viral video has been available online at least since December 2024, prior to the plane crash in Ahmedabad. 

The Air India passenger plane from Ahmedabad to London carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed just moments after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport on 12 June resulting in the deaths of 241 people, with only one passenger surviving. Following the accident a video from the cockpit is going viral on the social media. In the video, we can see the window view, and inside the cabin, where the entire flight appears to be shaking. It is being claimed that this video is from just one minute before the Ahmedabad plane crash.

Fact Check- 

We started our investigation with a Google reverse image search with the key frames of the video and whose result us to a similar video uploaded on an Instagram handle on 30 December 2024. 

This indicates that the video predates Ahmedabad plane crash and it has no link to it. Moving forward, we found another Instagram post also with the same video. It was also uploaded on 26 December 2024. 

The caption states that the incident involved an Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer 190 flight that crashed in Aktau, Kazakhstan. 

Upon further search we found several media reports of that time regarding this incident. As per reports, “Azerbaijan began a national day of mourning after a passenger jet from the flag carrier crashed in western Kazakhstan on Christmas Day, killing 38 of the 67 people onboard. 

The Embraer 190 was en route from the Azerbaijani capital of Baku to the Russian city of Grozny in the North Caucasus when it was diverted and attempted an emergency landing 3 kilometers (1.8 miles) from Aktau,” Azerbaijan Airlines said”.

Based on these evidences, we can understand that this video is not from the cock pit of Air India Flight that crashed in Ahmedabad.
