Fact Check-

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on the first image and the results led us to several media reports from August 2020 featuring the same image, confirming that the picture is old and unrelated to the Ahmedabad plane crash.

According to reports, on 7 August, 2020, Air India Express Flight IX-1344 from Dubai crashed while landing in Kozhikode, Kerala under heavy rain. The flight was part of the Vande Bharat Mission to repatriate Indian nationals stranded due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The airport at Kozhikode has a tabletop runway, and the aircraft, while attempting to land, plunged 30 feet and broke into three parts.

An investigation by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) found pilot error as the primary cause, with poor weather and runway conditions also contributing.

Flight-IX 1344-was a ‘Vande Bharat’ mission flight which had taken off from Dubai, and was due to land at Kozhikode. However, at Kozhikode, the pilot was unsuccessful in landing the aircraft in the first attempt due to heavy rain, and had to do a ‘go around’.

In the second and fatal landing attempt, the aircraft skidded off the tabletop runway and crashed into a gorge, also splitting in two halves. There were 191 passengers on board, including the two pilots and four cabin crew.

Based on these evidences, we can understand that the image is old and unrelated to the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral image to be False. This image shows an Air India Express flight that crashed at Kerala’s Kozhikode International Airport in August 2020. It is unrelated to the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash.
