Old Video Of Father-Daughter Duo Falling Into A Pothole In Sri Lanka Going Viral As India.

Recently, a video of two individuals on a bike falling into a pothole while riding on a waterlogged road went viral on social media. Sharing the video, users claimed that the video was from India. Sharing the video, a user wrote, “Narendra Modi has made extensive use of space technology on road construction in India.”

However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was false. The viral video is not from India. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check 

We started our investigation by taking screenshots from the viral video and conducting a reverse image search. This led us to a report published on a Sri Lankan website in September 2023. The report contained an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video and the viral video as well. 

The report read, “A father fell into a large hole on a road near the Kothaduwa Drainage Board while taking his daughter to school on a motorcycle and was rescued by bystanders.

The accident occurred this morning (19).

Reason

This crater, approximately 16 feet deep, was caused by the bursting of an underground pipe on the road from Kotthaduwa to Koswatta. 

Locals have reported that an underground pipe system was dug in an unsafe condition after a father and daughter were rescued after falling into a sudden hole .”

Taking this clue, we conducted a relevant keyword search. This led us to a report published in the Daily Mirror Online on 19 September 2023. The report contained an image similar to the screenshots from the viral video. 

The report read, “A father and his daughter narrowly escaped a potentially dangerous situation when they fell into a deep sinkhole on the road near the Gothatuwa Drainage Board today.

The incident occurred as they were making their way to school on a motorcycle. The father and daughter, along with their motorcycle, plunged into the water-filled ditch.

However, they were rescued by residents who sprung into action.”

This makes it clear that the video is from Sri Lanka.

Conclusion 

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is false. The viral video is not from India. It’s an old video from Sri Lanka.
