Video of a murder incident over a land dispute in Brazil falsely shared as India

This video is from Brazil, where a family dispute led to the brutal attack and death of an elderly man on 6 May, 2025. Not related to India.

A disturbing video of a man attacking an elderly man with a sharp weapon is going viral on social media. In the video, we can see an elderly man running on a road while another man chases and attacks him with a sharp weapon. After the attack, the assailant flees the scene on a bicycle. The users who share the video claims the incident occurred in India.

Fact Check- 

By conducting a reverse image search on one of the video’s key frames, we discovered a report in Portuguese language including the screenshot of the viral video. The report states, “In broad daylight, in the middle of a public road in Campo Alegre, in the interior of Alagoas, a 59-year-old man was murdered with more than 15 blows from a sickle, in a crime that has so far resulted in the arrest of a minor. The crime was caught on security cameras, which show the victim trying to escape on a bicycle, until he was caught by the killer, who had a scythe in his hands”.

Moving forward, we found many reports regarding this incident. As per the report, A man, Sebastião Fabiano da Silva, was murdered in Campo Alegre, Alagoas, with at least 16 blows from a sickle. The incident occurred in the Agreste region, where three people, two armed with sickles and a piece of wood, attacked the 59-year-old. A teenager was apprehended and a suspect was arrested.

Quoting the police, the report states that this incident happened due to a family dispute. The victim’s family had been receiving threats for a long time. Three suspects involved in this incident have been identified, out of which one minor accused has been arrested by the police.
