Edited image of cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi with Colonel Sofiya Qureshi goes viral as real

The image has been edited. The original image shows Vaibhav Suryavanshi with former cricketer Wasim Jaffer 

Following14-year-old cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s excellent innings in the Indian Premier League 2025, an image of the cricketer posing alongside Colonel Sofiya Qureshi has gone viral on social media, with the claim that the two posed together for a picture.

Fact Check- 

We performed a reverse image search on the image which led us to the official Instagram handle of the young player. Original image was shared there on 24 March 2024 with a caption that said, “Wasim sir the legend @wasimjaffer14.”The post featured a similar image with the same background, but it showed him with former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer, not Colonel Sofiya Qureshi. 

Moving forward, we came across a report by the Indian Express published on 26 November, 2024. One of the pictures in the report’s cover image showed Suryavanshi standing next to former cricketer Wasim Jaffer. The caption states, “IPL Auction: Aged 13 years, 243 days, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player to be signed in IPL history as he cut a bidding war between the Royals and Delhi Capitals, the former ultimately securing him for Rs 1.1 crore”.

Furthermore, we found no credible media coverage of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi together. Thus, it is clear that the image of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi with cricket player Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been digitally altered.

Fact Crescendo found that the viral image to be Altered. The image has been edited. The original image shows Vaibhav Suryavanshi with former cricketer Wasim Jaffer, not Colonel Sofiya Qureshi.
