However, as we investigated, we came to know that the claim was misleading. The woman in the video is mentally unstable. Here’s the fact check.

Fact Check

We started our investigation by conducting a relevant keyword search.

We couldn’t find any credible report regarding the incident.

Guwahati Police sources said that the woman in the video is mentally unstable. She lives in the Lal Ganesh area in Guwahati. Moreover, she can’t speak. It’s not a case of child abduction. She was roaming in the area and was mistaken as a child kidnapper. No case has been registered and she was not arrested. Police handed her over to her family after verifying her identity.

From time to time, such rumours have caused chaos and terror among people and have had fatal outcomes.

A horrific incident took place on 8 June 2018 in Dokmoka, Karbi Anglong, Assam where two youths Abhijit Nath and Nilotpal Das were lynched after locals suspected them of being child kidnappers.  A mob of at least 40 people attacked them and later they succumbed to their injuries.

We have done similar fact-checks earlier regarding the rumours of child abduction which can be read here and here.

We urge our readers not to fall prey to rumours.

Conclusion

From our investigation, we can say that the claim is misleading. The woman in the viral video is not a child kidnapper. She is mentally unstable and was handed over to the family by the Police after verification of her identity.
