Old video from Yemen falsely shared as Balochistan Liberation Army attack on Pakistan Army convoy

This video shows a military exercise conducted by the Houthi group in Yemen in March 2024.

People in Balochistan have been fighting for years for a separate Balochistan from Pakistan. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has launched a string of armed attacks across Pakistan’s Balochistan province, claiming responsibility for over 70 strikes as part of its broader movement for independence.

In this scenario, there are many videos surfacing on internet related to Balochistan. Now a video of an ambush on a military convoy is going viral on social media, with the claim that it shows the recent Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) strike on the Pakistan Army.

Let’s check the truth.

Fact Check-

We started our investigation by performing a reverse image search with the key frames of the viral video and the results led us to a similar video uploaded on Twitter on 18 March 2024. The caption states, Yemen: The Houthis continue to play “I think so.” Here in an exercise in which they supposedly destroy a convoy of American-British vehicles that invaded Yemen. This indicates that the viral video is from Yemen.

We conducted further searches using these hints and found an extended version of this video uploaded on Middle Eastern media outlet Al Araby TV’s YouTube channel on 21 April, 2024.  It mentioned that the Houthi rebels were engaged in military exercises. The caption states, “Houthi group conducts military maneuvers simulating storming Israeli sites and targeting American and British forces”. You can see the viral clip at the timestamp of 3.13 minutes in this YouTube video. It also mentioned that the Houthi soldiers were conducting military exercises. All of this confirms that the viral video does not belong to Pakistan.

Thus, taking account of all these evidences, we can understand that the viral video claiming to show a BLA attack on the Pakistani army is not from Balochistan. It shows a Houthi military practice in Yemen that simulated attacks on international soldiers.

Conclusion-

Fact Crescendo found the claim made along with the viral video to be False. This footage shows a military exercise conducted by the Houthi group in Yemen in March 2024.
